as well as your pencils, your cords, your makeup, your tarot deck, your tampons and your keys…
This One-Of-A-Kind pouch was created out of upcycled materials and crafted with intention.
Most of the materials used here chose me.
The maker relishes the delights of gifted materials – beads, textiles, thread and yarn, paintbrushes…they get tucked away, bide their time, polish themselves into diamonds.
The Keeper was born from a desire to create with these gifted, polished materials – to make, but to consume less. To transform something un-used into something of use, a sort of alchemy.
Re-use is a counter energy to a culture of disposability. Our resources ARE precious. Thinking about this pouch, I realize all of the resources that have gone into it — the water –– the soil –– the seeds –– the labor of growing / harvesting / spinning the cotton; the power for the machines that wove the textile, the handprinting of the patterns, the components of the dye. I am indebted to the earth and the labor.
The pieces of this KEEPER and the impetus for its creation came together slowly over time.
